This is not just a generational quirk. Millenials have developed a vague, but slowly solidifying understanding that life adjustments need to be made in the face of stagnating salaries/wages that have been out of sync with the forces of inflation, wearing on the middle-class long before 2008’s economic developments (rather, the lack thereof). Pair that with the seemingly unavoidable amount of student debt incurred at the end of a 4-year degree, and you’ve got the makings of an entire generation who won’t buy the same way as their parents did. They are far more loan-averse than their parents ever were, and so the market for homes and autos need to develop accordingly to prove themselves to be worth the expense burden.
