Excerpt written for a Johnny Cash wannabe

…and yes, it burns like hell but I won’t limp; I refuse
to succumb to the heavy waves of apathy and the blues.

To retreat and leave what I’ve got
and try to be someone I’m not
is not a definition of life I’d accept as truth.

But hey you can be who you want,
that’s your right to choose.
I trust with conviction,
I just wish you would too.
