Internet memes and GIFs= 21st century cave painting equivalent

Let that sink in for a bit.

I’m not a fan of GIFs at the moment (since there are WAY too many of them on tumblr), but while staring at this one, I could almost hear the rumble of the 1 train, and remembered how the train cars would rattle every bone in your body in such an memorably awkward way as it hurtled downtown, between the 59th and 42nd Street stations.
I know things are changing fast, but don’t ever lose that charming grit, NYC.

PSA to tumblr users

A friend of mine referred me to this post a few weeks ago about tumblr content.

“Tumblr built an incredible thing and it is not surprising that it starting growing quite rapidly. With time these people who were sort of the royalty of tumblr have either left or ceased to be that popular. They have been replaced with, at best, countless (and I mean countless) blogs comprised of people curating non original content and more likely with a lot of .gifs and endless reblogs and no credit whatsoever.

Which brings me to what I was thinking about whist driving to Oneonta yesterday. Is this a problem? Yes, Tumblr is currently experiencing explosive growth(which is great!), but will it be sustainable? If there is one big problem I think they need to solve it is not the scaling issues (let’s face it, you are not leaving because the site is down) but instead it is coming up with better ways to promote those people creating original and interesting content. If Tumblr’s strength lies in their community, and that community becomes trivial and uninteresting will the artists stay?”

Please do your best to promote original works.
