To put this another way, he fired from like four blocks away on a Friday night while Obama was out of town. If you were to walk from there to the White House — if you could — it would take you 10 to 15 minutes. (For out-of-towners, the public can actually get closer than this to the White House — on the front-facing end — though there are armed police in plain sight.) Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, meanwhile, told agents that he thought Obama was “the anti-Christ” and that he wanted to “hurt” the president. He was charged with attempted assassination on Thursday. I mean, has anybody been watching the debates lately? You’ve got a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change. It’s true. You’ve got audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don’t have healthcare. And booing a service member in Iraq because they’re gay. That’s not reflective of who we are.
